The grindworks: the collective name for the great machines, boilers, engine rooms, pump operations, sewer works, water mains, and other such things that are the life force of the two cities. The worst conditions, but perhaps the better pay. People here don't live very long, as the work is brutal. This place is loud and noisier than anywhere else in the whole city, which is saying something.
